About Us

Boy in woods yelling

At Outdoor Life Leadership, we are dedicated to empowering young men, ages 7-17, in underserved communities through transformative outdoor experiences. Our mission is to equip them with essential survival skills, disaster preparedness, leadership abilities, and pathways toward economic mobility. By engaging in these activities, they not only learn practical life skills but also build the confidence, resilience, and teamwork needed for a successful future.

Founded in 2024, we are a grassroots organization based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Our vision is to create a world where every young man has the opportunity to grow into a confident, capable leader with the tools to succeed in life and in potential careers in outdoor and emergency services.

Our
Story

During and after the COVID-19 pandemic, our board members noticed something alarming: disaster awareness, preparedness, and housing needs were at an all-time high. People in our communities were struggling, and many didn’t know how to handle emergencies. This hit especially hard for young people and young adults, who were unprepared for the challenges ahead.

We realized that something had to be done. Our communities needed to become more aware and better prepared for future disasters. That’s when we came together to establish Outdoor Life Leadership.

We created our programs to teach survival skills, leadership, and disaster preparedness to young men in underserved communities. By offering hands-on outdoor experiences, we empower them with the tools they need to navigate tough situations and create a pathway to a successful future.

We believe that when our young people are prepared, they are stronger, more resilient, and ready for anything life throws their way.

What We Do

At Outdoor Life Leadership, we teach you important skills that can help you succeed in life. Here’s how:

  • Survival Skills: Learn how to stay safe and take care of yourself in nature. You’ll discover how to build a shelter, make a fire, find food, and stay safe in the wild—just like a park ranger or a game warden!

  • Disaster Preparedness: Learn what to do during an emergency, like a big storm or a fire. You’ll know how to keep yourself and others safe, just like first responders do.

  • Leadership: Build your confidence, learn how to work with others, and solve problems as a team. These are the skills leaders use to help others and make important decisions.

  • Economic Mobility: Learn skills that can help you get a good job and be successful in the future. You’ll gain hands-on experience in jobs like park rangers, game wardens, or even outdoor guides!

Our Global Goals

Teaching How to Be Ready for Emergencies

Knowing what to do in an emergency is very important. We teach young men how to prepare for things like storms, floods, or other dangers. This way, they can keep themselves and others safe when things get scary.
